Hold on… CMS Extends Enrollment Period

You may remember (or do some looking down our blog feed!) that February 15th was the last day you could get individual health insurance coverage through the Exchange or free market.  No, we didn’t lead you astray!  This is due to the open enrollment period coming to a close.  Leading up to the February 15, 2015 deadline many consumer enrollment systems (e.g. the Health Insurance Marketplace), experienced some issues that kept many of you from completing the enrollment before the deadline above. Because of this, an “In Line” Special Enrollment Period has been issued from Monday, February 16 to Sunday, February 22. Consumers that fall within the circumstances listed below will be able to enroll during this special enrollment period.

  • Currently are not enrolled in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace
  • Have not been terminated from coverage purchased through the Health Insurance Marketplace during the 2015 Open Enrollment period
  • Can attest that they attempted to enroll during the annual Open Enrollment period but did not complete the process by February 15, 2015 because they experienced a technical issue with HealthCare.gov that prevented them from completing enrollment by February 15 or an extensive call center wait on February 13, 14 or 15

All enrollments completed during this period will have an effective date of March 1, 2015. Consumers will not be able to access this special enrollment period through the direct enrollment process but instead should contact the Health Insurance Marketplace via the call center or reach out to your Omega individual representative.
